General VCL-ECU1 Information

The-Sony VCL-ECU1 18mm f/2 0-8.0 lens is a wide-angle tele-converter lens that will improve your current lens and camera, giving you a powerful capacity to shoot landscapes or work in tight spaces to produce deeper, richer, and clearer images. It does this by opening up the scene, allowing you to get more detail in the frame. It is simple to use; just attach the conversion to your current 16mm NEX series and start shooting. The device works by focusing on and attaching to the 16mm host lenses itself, so there are no contacts for communication with the camera, almost like a filter but with more technology and functionality. The EXIF data displays 16mm, so the cameras themselves don’t know it’s mounted. There is no reason why it won’t give you great results in video mode too. The Sony VCL ECU1 0.75x converter provides an 18mm equivalent focal length for wide-angle shooting with the 16mm f/2.8 E-mount. It opens up aperture from F2 (and can close as far as f8). It can be used as an autofocus or manual focus, and because it has a fixed length (18mm), it is considered a prime lens. With an aperture that can bring plenty of light into the photographic device, this converter makes it possible to take vibrant pictures in low lighting conditions too. Capture vivid portraits in dull or bright light as well as outdoor images of landscapes, nature, and sports. This Sony accessory adds just 4.41 oz. of weight to your photographic kit. As a lightweight converter, it is easy to carry and to use, and its size makes it convenient to mount on a Sony DSLR. Photographers can also use these accessories with a compatible conversion lens to enhance pictures with additional magnification. Sony designed these pancake lenses for use with different styles of converters. One is called a fisheye and the other is an extra wide 0.75x angle converter. The full frame 12mm converter and full frame 18mm converter provide the same coverage as this one, and due to the f/3.2-f/3.5 aperture, you get less light loss. When you mount this converter on the from of your camera's optical device, you notice it can be mounted in any position, and even if it is upsdide down you still get the same, clear image quality. The Sony VCL 18mm f/2 0-8.0 lens is made from aluminum alloy material with a silver finish. The converter comes with a built-in hood that can’t be removed. The front and rear covers have plastic covers the fit snugly in place. These front and rear caps protect the lens from damage. This Sony gadget is designed for use with your NEX cameras and with the SEL 8. It gives you a broader frame with which to compose your shots so that more of the surroundings can be included in the image. This wide angle Sony VCL ECU1 converter is a handy lens to take if you don't want to carry a lot of extra accessories but want to take an occasional wide angle shot.

Looking after your camera

Use a Camera Bag

A camera bag does more than just protect the camera against scratches and dust: It keeps it safe from rain because many are waterproof on the outside.

Be Very Careful Around the LCD Screen and Camera Lens

Use only special equipment to clean your camera’s LCD screen and camera lens. Buy a special cleaning kit that includes liquid solutions, microfiber cloths and brushes that have been specially designed to clean your camera lens.

Never Leave Your Batteries in Your Camera for Too Long
Many camera batteries are now alkaline or lithium formats. If you keep your camera with the batteries inside of it in a moist area, then the batteries can get corrosive. So if you’re thinking about just putting your camera on the shelf for several months, do yourself a favor and remove them.

Turn Your Camera Off Prior to Doing Anything

Before you do anything to your camera, always keep in mind that it should be turned off first. No matter what it is—swapping lenses, changing memory cards or disconnecting or attaching cables—your camera should be turned off.

Cold and Wet Weather Can Wreak Havoc on Your Camera Body
Take your camera out only in a waterproof bag. If the weather’s unusually cold, just wrap your camera in a plastic bag that has silica desiccant packets for the reduction of moisture. It’s also a smart idea to have a soft towel with you to wipe off any moisture, just in case it should get on your camera.

Good Memory Card Care Is Good Camera Care

Only transport your memory cards inside of a protective caseMake sure the memory cards stay dust-free at all times. When removing memory cards, make sure you do so indoors or in non-dusty situations.
Make sure that you keep memory cards only in cool places. Never keep them in places where they may heat up, like dashboards or glove compartments.
Never place your memory cards close to magnetic sources. Examples of magnetic sources are things such as audio speakers, TV monitors and actual magnets.

Use a Filter to Protect Your Camera Lens

The lens of your camera is naturally fragile. As such, it’s susceptible to scratches, cracks, dents…you name it. A UV filter will not only will you give your lens a fighting chance, but you’ll also enhance the quality of your pictures.

Condensation Can Be Controlled

Condensation normally happens when you move your camera between different temperatures.
Allow your camera a chance to naturally get used to the hotter environment. Don’t place it inside a closed plastic bag when transporting it between different temperatures! Just let the camera sit in the humid temperature for a while, until condensation disappears.
If this still doesn’t get rid of all of it, you can utilize a soft cloth to wipe away any remaining moisture and marks left behind from the condensation.
